2GHz Relocation efforts:

The FCC-mandated BAS 2GHz Relocation project is sweeping through the broadcast nation.  Sprint/Nextel and the FCC are coming to your town soon, if they have not already been there.  You should ask yourself the following questions:  Are you eligible? Are you prepared to utilize your dwindling resources to facilitate this project?  Could you use help?

How can we help?  As part of the FCC relocation requirements, the QCOMM Project Management and Integration services is a budgeted item in your relocation efforts. We want to be able to benefit not only you, the broadcaster, by being able to ensure you that your relocation project will be handled in an efficient and professional manner, but also Nextel by assisting its teams in meeting the FCC-mandated timelines and budgets.

QCOMM will be of benefit to you by lifting the burden off your internal resources and by assisting you in meeting the market and station relocation timelines and goals. QCOMM is prepared to offer project management and integration services for all or part of your 2GHz relocation project.

Make sure you are ready by calling QCOMM today.  We will be happy to address any questions you may have on the overall project. QCOMM is the premier industry leader in microwave relocation issues and has been working with industry leaders for over nine years to make sure that QCOMM is prepared to assist you with your relocation requirements.

This project is an extraordinary event and will take a Herculean effort from the broadcasters, manufacturers, service vendors, and Nextel to accomplish. Your station alone may take from eight months to over a year to complete.

Nextel is essentially replacing all of your 2GHZ  analog equipment, including ancillary  gear with digital microwave gear at no cost to you; this includes ENG truck radios, Nycoils and cabling, fixed link radios and receivers, some central receive antennae, receivers, master antenna control systems, slaves, and more.  All of this at no cost to the broadcaster.  Also, Nextel will pay all administrative costs, including your station hiring an outside company to manage your project from the initial kickoff meeting until final changeover to an all digital market.

Most of you are owned by station groups, and by now one or more stations in your group have begun the conversion process.  Ask any of them if they now wish they had taken advantage of using an outside project management company.  Each of the initial early markets is now at least four months behind in its ten-month market plan for conversion and is only in the first phase of many steps to reach the target date.

Remember, QCOMM costs are a budgeted line item on your “relocation agreement,” and we know exactly what Nextel and the FCC requirements are for this transition.

Our Broadcast Engineers have decades of broadcast experience, working as Chief Engineers and Directors of Engineering in top ten markets, as well as working within Sprint/Nextel for the last year on the 2GHZ Relocation Project.  Our people have extensive FCC relocation experience, and worked directly for Nextel for this project.  The QCOMM team has been working very closely with Nextel through the development of the entire relocation process. This will be of benefit to you as QCOMM processes your relocation efforts.  Please contact us today at 816-875-3861 and let the QCOMM team benefit you and your station.
